Eighteen stories, mostly brief--some hows, some whys, some inconclusive, evocative fragments, a few longer legends. Among the latter is ""Sedna, the Sea Goddess"" in a version different in detail from that recounted in The Day Tuk Became a Hunter (p. 54, J); also less striking in the telling--which can be said of all of these.
